Channel Life started back in 1969 when it was registered as Anchor Life.
The company was purchased by the PSG Group in 1997 and required a change of management
and direction in 2000 due to the economic slump in the previous years. Channel Life
was chosen as the company's new name and the life insurance activities of Anchor
Life were combined with employee benefit offerings.
In January 2006, Sanlam purchased a 62.4% stake in Channel Life making it the majority
shareholder. Sanlam is one of South Africa's largest financial services companies.
Channel Life gained increased stability and strength by becoming a part of the Sanlam
group. Channel Life is also a BEE compliant company.
Although the company was originally based in Pretoria it is now active nationally
with offices in both Gauteng and Cape Town. It also has insurance advisor offices
throughout the country.
The company specialises in targeting niche markets with tailored products and is
focused on widening its distribution channels. Some of its risk cover products include:
DreamWeaver - a family funeral plan
DreamWeaver (2) – a variation of the DreamWeaver family funeral plan
LifeProvider - cover of up to R200 000 for loss of life and debility
MasterPlan - cover for death, accidental death and disability
