Dental insurance is a specialised insurance product which covers any dental procedures that may need to be performed on the insured person. There are many normal health insurance policies and medical aid schemes that include dentistry amongst their benefit schedule, but the cover may not be sufficient for everyone. Taking out a dental insurance plan may be more suited to young, healthy individuals who do not want a comprehensive health plan, but who are concerned about their dental care. Dental insurance will often cover everything from bi-annual check-ups to root canals and even orthodontic work. As always, it highly advisable to shop around and decide the level of cover you require and what your budget constraints are. For some people, it may be advisable to get a basic health insurance plan and add dental insurance "on top" to cover any possible dental work that may be required.
