First Link Insurance Brokers

First Link Insurance Brokers dates back to 1969 when Barclays National Bank launched its own insurance broking service. This company went through numerous changes over the years and it also reinvented itself as Bowring Barclays and then First Bowring. In 1993 First Rand Bank Holdings Limited took control of the company and it is now a wholly-owned subsidiary.

The company concentrated on the personal and business short-term insurance market instead of spreading its services across other lines like life assurance. The company changed its name once again in 2001 to First Link Insurance Brokers. First Link continued to service the short-term insurance markets with emphasis on personal lines, commercial, business and agricultural insurance.

A final name change came in 2007 when the FNB brand was adopted and the company was rebranded as FNB Insurance Brokers. It was felt that the FNB brand was easily recognised by South Africans and that it was held in high esteem. The company has since continued to operate as an autonomous division of FirstRand.
