Keyhealth is the result of an amalgamation of two medical aid schemes,
Munimed and Global Health, which serves the open market as well as Local government.
Currently over 150 000 members strong, KeyHealth has the largest Local Government
and significant open market presence.
The companies merged for a number of reasons, including increasing their risk pool
to create a more stable a predictable claims profile, creating more stable contributions.
The range of benefits offered also increased as a result of the merge. After the
amalgamation, KeyMed now have reserves in excess of R200m.
According to there website, KeyCare offers five benefit option with Network options
included. They include, but are not limited to:
Platinum
The top of range option, the platinum plan offers, amongst other benefits:
• Unlimited annual hospitalisation benefit.
• Unlimited in-hospital specialised care.
• Very Generous Chronic and medical appliance benefit.
• Unlimited threshold day-to-day care.
• Unlimited overall optical benefit.
• Unlimited Ambulance services.
Gold
Suitable for larger families, the gold option offers slightly less benefits than
the platinum plan but is still very comprehensive. Benefits include:
• Unlimited overall annual hospitalisation benefit.
• Very generous in-hospital specialised care.
• Generous day-to-day benefit.
• Generous optical care benefit.
• Unlimited Ambulance services.
Silver
Suitable for smaller, healthy families, the silver plan offers generous benefits
including:
• Unlimited overall annual hospitalisation benefit.
• Generous in-hospital specialised care.
• Generous day-to-day benefit.
• Some optical care benefit.
• Unlimited Ambulance services.
Bronze
Not as comprehensive as the other plans, the bronze option still offers appropriate
benefits for young individuals. Benefits include:
• Unlimited overall annual hospitalisation benefit. Pre-authorisation required.
• Some in-hospital specialised care.
• Some day-to-day benefit.
• Unlimited Ambulance services.
KeyCap 2009
This is the entry-level option, best suited for first time buyers. Benefits include:
• R550 000 Annual Hospitalisation benefit.
• Unlimited GP benefit.
• Unlimited Ambulance services.
