Liability Insurance is designed specifically for third party claims, usually due to negligence. Liability insurance is most often included in short-term car and household insurance policies. Additional cover on top of a normal policy is usually offered at a relatively low premium. It will for example cover the insured in the event of a guest becoming injured while on the insured's property or as a result of a motor vehicle accident caused by the insured. Liability insurance is mandatory in certain professions where people face a higher risk of being sued due to accidents caused by negligence or other reasons. A prime example of this is taxi drivers. If a taxi is involved in an accident, whether it is due to negligence from the driver or not, the injured passenger of the taxi will have grounds to sue the taxi company for their injuries. Businesses in high risk industries such as mining and construction need significant liability insurance to cover themselves in the event of accidents.
