Momentum Medical Aid, known as Momentum Health, came into being in January
2005 through the merger of National Medical Plan and Pulz. Since this union, Momentum
medical aid scheme has grown to over 70,000 members
(principal).
Two significant acquisitions have grown Momentum’s reach to 517 000 members under
their administration, namely acquisition of Sovereign Health from Medscheme in May
2005 and the acquisition of African Life Health from African Life in February 2006.
Momentum medical aid offers 3 delivery models:
1. Primary Care
This offers primary healthcare benefits to people who need low-cost access to entry-level
cover via negotiated set rates with various hospitals and capitation arrangements
with specific providers.
2. New Generation
This model allows members to choose their healthcare providers in regards to hospitals,
chronic and day-to-day benefits based on their own healthcare needs.
3. Traditional
This is aimed at members who require unlimited private hospitalisation, comprehensive
chronic and extensive day-to-day cover.
Momentum medical aid has several plans available that fall under their 3 delivery

The Base Option
This plan provides affordable access to entry-level cover at preferred providers.
The Access Option
A plan for members who require unlimited private hospitalization at a group of network
hospitals.
The Custom Option
Designed for members who require unlimited private hospitalisation of up to 150%
of the Momentum Health Rate and provides average day-to-day cover.
The Incentive Option
This plan provides unlimited private hospitalisation of up to 300% of the Momentum
Health Rate and provides average day-to-day cover.
The Summit Option
Provides unlimited private hospitalisation of up to 300% of the Momentum Health
Rate and provides extensive chronic cover and comprehensive day-to-day benefits.
