Established in 1951 as the Natal Industries Medical Aid Society, NIMAS
has undergone a number of name changes and is currently known as the National Independent
Medical Aid Society. NIMAS currently outsources its administration to the Metropolitan
Health Group.
NIMAS Medical Aid currently offers four benefit plans to suit their members’ specific
health requirements, ranging from entry level to comprehensive cover. Their healthcare
plans are as follows:
Primary
As the entry level plan, the Primary plan offers core hospitalization benefits and
day-to-day benefits through Network Service Providers, arranged through Prime Cure.
A referral from a Prime Cure General Practitioner is required before utilizing any
of the benefits offered by this plan.
Classic
The more traditional plan, Classic cover offers hospitalization benefits and some
day-to-day benefits. It does not offer a savings plan.
Millennium
Hailed as NIMAS’ new generation plan, this plan offers a saving option to top up
day-to-day expenses. It offers comprehensive hospital and chronic benefits and members
are rewarded for not claiming by retaining medical saving accrued over time.
Supreme
Top of the range, the Supreme plan offers its members maximum hospital and day-to-day
benefits.
