Truck insurance works in a similar way to regular car insurance, but since trucks are used for business purposes they will be insured under a business insurance policy rather than a personal short-term insurance policy. Premiums for truck insurance tend to be rather high for a number of reasons. The most obvious reason is because trucks are expensive. Since the cover is higher, the premium required to insure the truck is also higher. Since trucks are used to transport goods, often across country, the risk of these vehicles being involved in an accident also increases tremendously. For transport companies to maximise the income from their trucks, the trucks need to run as much as possible. These trucks will often run day and night transporting goods for clients. Since people need sleep, each truck's drivers will rotate and although truck drivers are often well trained, the result is that the trucks do not have regular drivers. This makes it difficult to assess driver risk which also increases monthly premiums.
